We had a weekend trip away for my boyfriend’s birthday and both had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The room was nicely furnished, very clean and the bathroom was absolutely lovely although could have done with some soap. We enjoyed the leisure facilities although they were slightly outdated however for the price you really cannot complain!
We had dinner in the restaurant which was absolutely delicious with incredible service, they even brought out the birthday cake I had bought for dessert with candles and strawberries added on by them which made it so beautiful.
The location was also perfect for a quiet and relaxing weekend away, with the garden overlooking the river, Chollerford Bridge and minutes away from parts of Hadrians Wall. I would say this hotel is perfect for walkers or those fond of outdoor activities.
Overall, we had a lovely stay and were thoroughly impressed by the value for money during our stay and would gladly stay again!

Value for money provided you book a deal. Beautiful, quiet riverside setting and ideal location for walking. Lovely, helpful staff, communal areas cosy, comfy bed, adequate breakfast and food is pub grub, plenty of free parking but… very tired decor in a lot of places, slapdash paintwork, cold bedroom (radiator not working - small electric heater provided as alternative) and only a towel rail to heat bathroom, leisure facilities closed and no boot room for drying walking gear - essential for walkers. I would recommend as a walking base but not for a relaxing break.

Excellent Hiking friendly hotel. Very good warm and quiet rooms. Comfy beds and great shower. Location is by the river so even better if hiking in the Summer. Location is right on the trail and even has a pool if you have the energy. Beer was good and much welcomed. Excellent breakfast set us up for the next days hiking. I did not eat dinner, but heard it was okay from a fellow hiker. I ate at a local pub. |Bed and Breakfast was definitely great value and will consider revisiting again.

Avoid, and I say this with context.

I have officially stayed in hotels for 2,014 nights in many countries. From local inns to corporate chains. I have to rate this experience in my bottom 5. No exaggeration.

Let's start with the "good.". The location is beautiful exterior building, riverside, outdoor garden easy access to Hadrian's Wall walk. And a front desk staff trying to their best.

Now to the reality of a three night stay:
Room shower in the "new wing" had literally no pressure, yes I mean literally.

The mattresses have been used for so long that they dip in the middle AND the sides. (Even in the newly renovated Hadrian's Suite).

The cleanliness of the rooms definitely leaves a lot to be desired. In the corners etc where lack of attention to detail is obvious.

The restaurant staff, well 1 was fantastic. Our interactions with others could be best described as dismissive and uninterested.

During breakfast, they ran out of eggs. Not just for a moment but, once again literally, ran out of eggs in the kitchen. Next morning the "ran out of yogurt".
Both times the male server was rude and dismissive to the point of laughing/smirking at customers who asked. The anger this attitude caused in the restaurant was palpable.

The £7.95 packed lunches, well were the thinnest sandwich filling possible.

Oh ya, while sitting drinking in their bar (the cider and wine we had ordered from them) we were told off (once again, literally) for drinking water out of the water bottle that THEY had provided in our packed lunch.

Well, at least the location was nice.

We are positive people and look for the good in things but in this case it was next to impossible.

Went here for my partners birthday and from start to checking out it was terrible booked a superior double room for 2 people with breakfast and evening meal only 1 person got add so we ended up with a large bill when checking out. meals /food was average at best and expensive. the room was nothing special at all it was a good size room but dull all dark colors and lights not to good and it was very cold as the 1 radiator in room didn't work so the room was cold but during the night it was freezing no lock on bathroom door the shower pressure was terrible drizzle at the most worst trip away do not recommend and definitely will not be returning felt it spoilt my parents birthday.

Where to begin and avoid at all costs… the hotel is in really poor condition and shouldn’t be charging customers/opened until it has been comprehensively refurbished.

The room had mould, stained sheets and leak damage as well as rusted bathroom fittings. The common areas were doused in bleach (presumably to hide other smells) and the breakfast ingredients did not taste fresh. The leisure facilities had closed days before (for refurbishment) our stay and was not communicated in advance.

I felt somewhat sorry for the staff as it’s a question of requiring substantial investment in most cases.
